I hate waste!

Now, hate is a strong word, however I feel it applies in the scenario of non-renewable waste.

Not only do I hate the twinge of guilt, remorse and helplessness associated with having to put something in the general rubbish bin because it sadly is not recyclable or compostable (anyone else feel this?!), but I hate the system in which we live where products we use and consume result in non-renewable waste. Even with all of the knowledge on the impact of this to our environment, and ultimately ourselves, the practice continues.

My heart breaks!

You’re probably thinking either, “Yeah, I feel ya!”, or “Man, you need to take a step back!”. Well, let’s take a step back for a second and I’ll give you some context to my thoughts.

Not to place too much emphasis on this, but my hair is naturally in the rouge hues. That is, I am a ranga, as delicately spoken Australians would say. This fundamentally tends to make my reactions to most things rather impassioned, rightly, or sometimes wrongly. My lovely friends often find it humorous- bless them! Hubby, not so much sometimes- oops!

Like many, I grew up doing outdoorsie things like camping, bike riding, boating, bush walks, gardening, watching episodes of Captain Planet, etc, which all instilled a love of, and connection to, God’s creation.

I can’t think of one specific event that kicked me into eco-warrior mode. I think it has been a gradual education and realisation about the way we live, and the impact it has on everything around us.

Knowing that everything we do has an impact in some way, we can view this in the positive, too.

While you may think, “What difference can I make?”, I’m telling you, you can make a huge difference! Little baby steps towards a more sustainable life all add up to Big Foot… or a small footprint, depending on which way you shoe it.

My hope and prayer is that we can encourage each other through this walk of life, stopping to smell the roses we helped preserve.

Your partner in eco-warrior-ness,

Kirsten
